Amethyst & Artemis: A Myth Woven in Violet

Amethyst & Artemis: A Myth Woven in Violet

The story behind one of the most beloved gemstones in the world is a story of divine protection.

Before amethyst found its way into silver settings and jewellery boxes,
it lived inside a story.

Artemis was the ancient Greek goddess of wild animals who belonged to the woods. She was known as the protector of the wild and the moon, who knew the rhythm of the earth.

Dionysus, by contrast, ruled wine and revelry and that heady space where emotion spills over and logic falls away.

The myth tells of a mortal maiden named Amethystos, who crossed Dionysus’s path as he vowed to punish the next human he saw. But before harm could reach her, Artemis stepped in.

To protect her, she turned the girl to pure white quartz.

Dionysus, struck suddenly by remorse, wept and as his wine spilled over the stone, it bloomed violet.

This, it is said, is how Amethyst came to be a crystal born out of protection.

To this day, Amethyst is said to carry the energy of that myth. It is known as a stone of stillness for those who seek clarity in a world that rushes. It is used as a protector for the sensitive and a companion for the inward path.

Said to soothe emotional storms and deepen intuition, Amethyst remains linked to the third eye and crown chakras, inviting gentle balance and inner calm.

When you wear amethyst, you wear a story of wild protection.
